It is committed to investing in the skills of its people and was amongst the first to make the Skills Pledge at the launch of the initiative in 2007. BT has recently started to work with NES in order to provide nationally-accredited qualifications to its employees, initially in customer service, team leading and engineering roles, with plans to expand into all areas of the business.
One hundred BT contact-centre advisers have become the first to complete the organisation’s customer service apprenticeship.

BT has announced measures it is taking to help young people into work along with initiatives to ensure that those in employment receive certification through work training schemes. The measures have the potential to assist more than 10,000 people and support the government’s “Backing Young Britain” campaign. Under the new schemes, 7,200 contact centre employees will undertake Apprenticeship Framework training and 3,000 young people are to be offered improved work experience placements.
BT chairman Sir Michael Rake said: “We are very keen that young people have the chance to spend time with BT before they embark on their careers.
