Past event Preparing for success: being inspection ready

NES Sharing Expertise events are aimed largely at an operational level and are designed to be practical and inspiring. There is currently a lot going on in the world of learning and skills – this conference brought delegates fully up to date with the key changes.

Much of the day focused on the new inspection framework Ofsted introduced in September, with new elements that are specific to the assessment of employers delivering publicly funded contracts. The new framework is a very helpful response from Ofsted to requests from NES employers to make inspections more business friendly. There are, however, important new measures that employers need to understand and prepare for, the primary purpose of this event.

  • Date:
    30 September 2009
  • Purpose:
To discuss and understand the new Ofsted Common Inspection Framework and the implications for large employers
  • Speakers:
    NES, Whitbread, Ofsted
  • Venue:
    National Motorcycle Museum
  • Organised by:
    NES in partnership with Ofsted

The new Ofsted inspection framework introduced in September contains important new measures that employers need to understand and prepare for.

Most important is the shorter notice period for inspections. This means it is vital to have a detailed plan prepared and in place well in advance. It will also be essential to have more than one person in an organisation with detailed knowledge of the inspection process, and the inspection plan, in case the lead manager/nominee is away at the time of any inspection.

This Conference enabled Ofsted to explain this new framework and gave employers the opportunity to consider the changes and discuss them with colleagues. Issues covered included ways to:

  • minimise the risks to an employer’s reputation from a poor inspection
  • talk to Ofsted inspectors about how the new processes will work in practice, and what is important to them
  • understand how you can make best use of the time you spend in preparing for inspection, with input from employers who have already been through the process.
