The UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) was one of the proposals in the Leitch Report of 2006 and was formally launched in April 2008. The Commission exists to help boost UK productivity by improving the employment and skills system. It has a number of specific responsibilities including: funding and managing the performance of SSCs, assessing progress towards skills targets and providing advice on good practice for the skills and employment systems.
