What we do

Sector Skills Councils

Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are employer-led organisations that work to boost the skills of their sector workforces. There are currently 25 SSCs covering 85% of the UK workforce.

SSCs contribute to the development of National Occupational Standards and the design and approval of Apprenticeship frameworks, they also broker Sector Skills Agreements and create Sector Qualification Strategies.

NES provides a signposting and facilitating function for SSCs: informing employers of how their SSC can help them and inviting SSCs to resolve specific issues that our employers have experienced. For example, if a customised qualification is required, NES can help the employer engage with their Sector Skills Council (SSC) to develop an accredited qualification that meets their needs.
