National Employer Service

What we do

Train to Gain

Train to Gain is a national service that helps employers to improve the skills of their workforce as a route to improving business performance.

NES delivers 6% of England’s Train to Gain NVQ and Skills for Life programmes. Through Train to Gain, NES provides funding to support job-related NVQ qualifications at levels 2, 3 and 4 for an employer’s workforce, with an emphasis on employees who do not have a level 2 qualification (equivalent of five GCSEs) or where re-skilling employees is a priority (eg under threat of redundancy). We also support Skills for Life: literacy, numeracy and English language qualifications.

NES also supports the Foundation Learning Tier (FLT) which is currently the level 1 accredited NVQ in the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). From 2009/10 onwards NES will fund the accredited Foundation Learning Tier and Progression Pathways as set out in the Qualifications Curriculum Framework (QCF).
